(KELMSCOTT PRESS) A facsimile of an original leaf from the Kelmscott Press edition of The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer, being the opening page of Chaucer's translation of "De Consolatione Philosophie" by Boethius. Boston: Thomas G. Boss Fine Books, 1997. 17 inches tall by 11 inches wide, featuring a fine woodcut illustration by Edward Burne-Jones. Also with a large initial letter "A" and another smaller, decorative woodcut border framing the Burne-Jones woodcut, and a large decorative woodcut border framing the entire page, all designed by William Morris. Printed letterpress at the Stinehour Press, with one line of text printed in red. Available in two versions:
A. 90 copies printed on hand-made paper. $50.00 (+ shipping)
B. 1100 copies printed on machine-made paper. $25.00 (+ shipping)A superb and--we would like to stress--affordable reproduction of one of the more decorative leaves from the justly famous Kelmscott Chaucer. We venture to say that, due to the quality of printing by the Stinehour Press, when framed, this leaf would be all but indistinguishable from the original. And since original leaves from the Kelmscott Chaucer now bring $800-1200, this lovely facsimile should be well within the reach of all who appreciate the work of William Morris and fine printing and illustration in general.
